The Sound of Hope

Watching the NFL draft this last weekend I was reminded of a Running Back from UCLA by the name of Derrick Coleman who was not drafted. Derrick was legally deaf and from a young age decided that his disability would not translate into an excuse. He not only starred in a Duracell Commercial, he also went on to win a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks as his team demolished the Denver Broncos 43-8. As amazing as Derrick’s story is about perseverance and grit what is more amazing is the sound of compassion and empathy he displayed to two young fans who could relate to his journey. Riley and Erin Kovalcik are 9 year twins who also are legally deaf and found hope in Derrick’s journey. Watch this clip as the twins discuss how they found hope in Derrick’s story of determination.

Let’s look and listen for our opportunities to bring empathy and hope to those needing a brighter day in perhaps in their darkest hour of need.
